Compact and Vertically Mounted – The GSPV is a Highly Engineered Upgrade Solution

As industry leaders in magnetic drive pump technology, the HMD Kontro range includes the vertically-orientated GSPV, a magnetic drive sealless pump that requires minimum floor space and offers a sealless upgrade solution to vertical inline pump installations. Highly configured, yet meeting standard API 685 requirements, the GSPV has been engineered with a high attention to detail, thereby offering a strong alternative to conventional mechanical sealed pump designs.

In a recent webinar, Charlie St Laurence explains how improved magnetic drive technology has increased the application scope for vertical inline sealless pumps.

With nine hydraulics split between two frame sizes, and a standard design pressure of up to 40 bar /580 psi, the GSPV is ideal for offshore installations where space is at a premium and for crude oil, pipeline or fuel terminals’ he explains.

When planning a new pump installation or an upgrade at an existing site, the opportunity to switch from sealed to sealless brings significant cost savings and wider benefits.

How does the GSPV deliver technically?

  • Utilises a closed impeller and radial diffuser
  • Rated to 40 bar/580 psi
  • Max temp 205 C/401 °F
  • Radial Diffuser offering High and Low flow versions
  • Dimensionally compliant to BS4082
  • CMC thrust bearing material comprising of a silicon oxy-carbide matrix with continuous carbon fibre reinforcing.
  • Compatible with ZeroLoss Shell (meaning no coupling power loss)

How easy is it to take advantage of the GSPV upgrade and replacement opportunity?

The GSPV presents the perfect opportunity to make the migration to sealless, to simplify installations and to make cost savings. With a longer MTBF, and no bearing box required meaning no potential oil leaks, a GSPV replacement can overcome common problems and troubles users have consistently outlined with mechanical seals. HF Acid Alkylation

Preventing HF Acid Harming Employee Health and the Environment.

Operators of the Hydrofluoric (HF) acid alkylation process will know all too well that the pumping of HF acid is an application that presents a set of totally unique challenges.

Working in collaboration with UOP (Honeywell), we have been able to develop proven sealless pumps exclusively for use in HF alkylation units. An innovative approach using alternative materials and a new method of NDE (Non-Destructive Examination) specifically for pumps entering the HF Alkylation process.

Above: Short video introducing the new HF alkylation units.

Due to the hazardous nature of HF acid in the alkylation process, it must be treated with the utmost care and so HF alkylation units demand a fluid handling solution of the very highest standard.  This makes magnetic drive pumps eminently suitable. By comparison, pumps featuring failure-prone mechanical seals can leak harmful process fluids, negatively impacting employee health, the environment and productivity. HMD Kontro sealless pumps offer the highest level of safety and reliability with absolutely no leakages, for complete fluid containment.

The Benefits of HMD Kontro Pumps for HF Acid

HMD Kontro has developed a pump design specifically for the HF alkylation process that contains key features and includes an identified core scope of equipment. This package must be supplied, as a minimum, on all pumps destined for an HF alkylation unit and contains the following benefits:

  • Liquid contact materials of the highest grade
  • NDE requirements for HF acid
  • Secondary containment – rated to 40 bar
  • Leakage detection instrumentation
  • Dry run pump protection

If you would like further information on the process, please download the literature on our dedicated HF Alkylation webpage or alternatively complete the HF Alkylation enquiry form and a specialist member of our team will be in touch.

Think Sealless Solutions – Why Sealless is the Solution

We have the Know How.  Of course, we always like to say yes to our customers, but they seem to like it when we say no!:

Sealless pumps have no mechanical seals or seal support systems and only a single fully trapped gasket that ensures the integrity of the system, even at high temperatures and pressures.

The mean time between failure (MTBF) for sealless magnetic drive pumps is typically three times longer than for mechanically sealed pumps.

As the first in the world to develop the concept of the magnetic drive pump, we have combined cutting-edge technology with over seventy years of expertise and experience in sealless pumps to provide you with complete peace of mind.

Self Priming Sealless – Ideal for Offloading Applications

The SPGS pump is a self-priming magnetic drive pump designed for the reliable transfer of liquids ranging from water and benign fluids to hazardous and toxic substances.

These sealless pumps, which have the significant benefit of being leak-free, are particularly suitable for offloading liquids where total containment is crucial including emptying sumps, road and rail tankers etc.

SPGS Pump

Benefits of the SPGS pump include low running costs, simple installation and ease of maintenance plus general compliance with all specifications required by recognised industry sectors.

The SPGS covers a hydraulic range that is split between two frame sizes with differential head capabilities up to 52m / 170ft and flow rates up to 25 m³/hr / 110gpm. Standard construction is stainless steel with silicon carbide internal bearings and options of Alloy 20 or Alloy C with PTFE gaskets available.

Safe & Efficient Transfer of Dangerous Substances in Chemical Applications

By definition, the production of chemicals means that a lot of liquids need to be pumped around a plant presenting risks to the health and safety of both personnel and the environment.

Sealless magnetic drive pumps from HMD Kontro are designed to prevent leaks of hazardous and valuable fluids and they can handle such fluids as chlor-alkali, pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and fertilisers. Our sealless magnetic drive pumps meet the exacting standards of ASME and ISO regulations and can cope with high temperatures, high pressures and volatile substances associated with chemical pump applications including toxic, fine, corrosive, carcinogenic and aggressive liquids.
