CSA / CSI Pumps with ZeroLoss

PEEK Containment Shell Eliminates Eddy Current Heating and Improves Pump Efficiency

Reduced power consumption and hence energy savings, bringing a lower carbon footprint, is one of the significant reasons why the ZeroLoss containment shell is being specified on more and more HMD Kontro pumps, including the CSA / CSI range for chemical applications. ZeroLoss also brings improved handling of liquefied gases and heat-sensitive liquids.

CSA CSI ZeroLoss

The PEEK (Poly-Ether-Ether-Ketone) composite containment shell is highly durable, combining low weight with a higher specific strength, which will withstand a pressure of almost 19 bar / 275 psi.

Induction losses, associated with a traditional metallic containment shell, are completely eliminated, so allowing significant energy savings during operation. This can often also contribute to lower capital and installation costs because a smaller motor can be used to drive the pump, so also saving space.

Another benefit of the ZeroLoss containment shell, versus a metallic shell, is that less heat is transferred into the liquid being pumped. The CSA / CSI, when fitted with a ZeroLoss shell, can accommodate temperatures of between -40°C and up to 120°C / -40°F to 248°F.

The ZeroLoss shell is provided with a built-in vortex breaker, within the crown, to eliminate shell erosion. For further information on ZeroLoss, please click here. For further information on the CSA / CSI range of ASME and ISO chemical pumps, please click here.

Perfected Sealless Pumps Article – Pump Engineer

In chemical processing, with increasing environmental concerns and a strengthening of international safety standards, choosing the right pumps is essential when it comes to protecting plants and people against potentially dangerous leaks and avoiding processing downtime.

In a new article, published in Pump Engineer, Darren Martin, our Global Product Line Manager, looks at the latest developments in magnetic drive sealless pumps and how they protect the environment and ensure operator safety.

Perfected Sealless Pumps - Pump Engineer

The article charts the recent evolution of sealless pumps, illustrating how the latest new technologies and materials have been applied to further advance and perfect modern magnetic drive sealless pumps, such as HMD Kontro’s CSA/CSI range.  Not only maintaining their highly safe operation, but also making them an attractive proposition in terms of product life cycle time and costs savings, offering greater flexibility and ease of maintenance.

CSA / CSI Versatility: Interchangeable & Upgradeable

The new HMD Kontro CSA/CSI range of pumps represents a significant leap in sealless pump technology with its modular design and interchangeability of component parts. Specifically designed for ease of configuration and upgrade, the range has been developed to maximise uptime while delivering cost savings through improved lead times and operational efficiencies.

CSA/CSI Modularity = Versatility / Reliability / Safety / Serviceability / Availability

CSA CSI Versatility

The new CSA/CSI range is distinguished by its extremely wide operating parameters. The extended space and shaft design of its new external bearing assembly provides resistance at temperatures from as low as -40°C/F up to 260°C / 500°F. Withstanding design pressures of up to 19.0 bar / 275 psi at 38°C / 100°F, the CSA / CSI pumps offer flow rates up to 77 m³/h / 340 USgpm and can process liquids with a viscosity from 0.1 – 200 cSt.

A wide range of high-efficiency hydraulics ensure maximum flow and head coverage for optimal productivity. Low and high hydraulic variants are available to ensure an optimised fit, improving production flow rates and delivering cost savings.

The ‘Frame 1’ naming convention denotes a pump with B73.3 dimensional designations making the CSA/CSI an excellent upgrade path for switching from a mechanically sealed to a sealless pump.  Think Sealless!

The Latest Sealless Technology to Improve Site Safety

CSA/CSI Modularity = Versatility / Reliability / Safety / Serviceability / Availability

The safety of your staff team and eliminating or minimising the impact of manufacturing and other operations on both the local and wider environment is an essential, legal and moral obligation.  The containment shell in a magnetic drive pump provides a complete mechanical barrier, preventing leaks, escapes and emissions. There is no reliance on any internal or external seal system or method of prevention.

When it comes to applications that involve toxic, fine, corrosive, aggressive and valuable liquids, our new CSA (ASME) / CSI (ISO) magnetic drive pumps for chemical and industrial processes deliver the ultra-safe, dependable, and reliable performance that engineers demand and that both environmental health and safety, plus industrial regulations, require.

CSA CSI Safety

In certain highly challenging applications, compliance with stringent standards calls for a secondary control or containment option to be available, completely eliminating the possibility of a leak of pumped product to escape, in the highly unlikely event of a containment shell failure. In the CSA / CSI product line we have taken the secondary control / containment options further by not only ensuring both options are available on separately mounted pumps but also on close-coupled units, which we believe is unique to HMD Kontro.

The new HMD Kontro CSA (ASME) / CSI (ISO) sealless pump range is specifically designed to be completely leak and emission-free, keeping the pumping media completely enclosed within the body of the pump, exactly where it should be.
